- However, there are other considerations besides simply the
- (im)possibility of achieving 33.6 connects. For one, as you've probably
- read, the premier is much more robust than the power, sporting a flashable
- datapump and double the allowable dte rate than the power. Depending on
- motorola's plans for the unit, other benefits might appear not related to
- v.34+ (voice, for instance).
- Support. Motorola may shift the great majority of its development
- over to the premier, leaving the power a loosely supported product with
- little hope of future features or bugfixes.
- Time is also something to evaluate. Motorola may not keep this
- upgrade offer active indefinitely (look at what happened with zyxel).
- Should this window expire, will you be content with your decision not to
- upgrade?
- In short, investing in the premier is investing in the future. With
- the release of the premier, the power is obsolete. A fine, strong modem,
- but still obsolete.
-
- Of course, there's always the possibility that the premier may be a
- turkey. That is unlikely, however, since the premier is not a quantum
- technological leap as were v.32bis to v.34 units.
